Puppy pre-school

Puppy class is fun for both you and your new dog! Class size never exceeds 8 puppies ensuring you get the personalized attention you need. All training methods stress rewards and positive reinforcement. Clickers are used to speed up the learning process and teach the puppies how to love learning!

Owners are free to ask questions on everything from puppy socialization to housebreaking and special behavior issues. Children and families are welcome to attend to class to make training the new pup a family project.

This class is suitable for puppies from 8 weeks of age to 6 months.

Commands covered:

  1. sit stay
  2. down stay
  3. heel
  4. stay for extended periods
  5. simple tricks
  6. beginning agility
  7. begin work off lead
  8. basic good behavior
  9. coming when called and come to heel

Basic companion dog obedience assumes a dog can walk on a leash, and has begun to learn the sit command. Dogs from 7 months of age up to 3 years of age are good candidates for this class. Class size is 6 dogs or less, and stresses the dog and the owner becoming a team. When the 6 week class is complete, dogs will walk quietly at a heel, sit automatically from the heel, can down or sit stay for up to 10 minutes and have learned some simple tricks and have begun heel work without a lead. Owners are given an opportunity to hone their handling skills, and to better read their dog’s behavior patterns.

Commands covered:

  1. heeling patterns on and off lead
  2. jumping
  3. long down and sit stays
  4. long distance commands
  5. drop on recall
  6. tricks and fun stuff!

This class assumes the dog and owner team have mastered the basic obedience commands of sit, down, stay, heel, and come, and have begun working off lead.  This class is modeled after the American Kennel Club’s Canine Good Citizen test.  By the end of this class, an owner and dog team will be communicating with a high degree of efficiency, and will be ready to pursue training in either show ring obedience, agility or other canine sport.
